| The
Archaeological Museum
The museum housed in the lovely
old convent of St Francis of Assisi has exhibits
from diverse periods of the history of Goa. The
Key gallery has statue belonging to the Hindu period
- sculpture of deities such as Uma- Mahesh. There
are a number of sati and hero stones. There are
big paintings of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da
Gama and founder Alfonso de Albuquerque. The painted
portraits, yellowing with age, give us various ideas
of these fearless travelers, explorers and empire
builders.
The
Naval Aviation Museum
In Asia the first
naval museum was inaugurated at Dabolim, Vasco
in 1998 and opened for public from the 19th Oct
1998. The museum showcase the history of Indian
Naval Aviation, various aircrafts, weapons, sensors,
safety equipment, rare photographs depicting Goa's
liberation and artifacts. A multimedia games section
is an extra attraction. When it was opened, the
Museum started off with a very modest collection
of six aircraft but gradually built up its exhibits
and today boasts twelve aircraft on its roster,
making it the second largest Aviation Museum in
India, a place it shares with the HAL Museum.
