Hobbies are adept for interest and delight, rather than financial reward. Examples include collecting, innovative and artistic pursuits, making, tinkering, games and adult education. Engaging in a hobby can lead to acquiring extensive skill, knowledge, and practice. However, personal achievement is the aim.

What are hobbies for a few people are profession for others: a chef may like cooking as a hobby, while a specialized game tester might enjoy playing computer games. Generally talking, the person who does amazing for fun, not remuneration, is called an layperson (or hobbyist), as separate from a professional.

An essential determinant of what is considered a hobby, as separate from a profession is most likely how easy it is to make a livelihood at the activity.
